We All Live In Sin

10 Aug

AD 70 and
Rome encircled Jerusalem,
siphoning off life,
starving
many,
massacring those who
survived
a Jewish-Roman War.

there would be others,
and will be another,
for
we all know how man covets
more.

as if
70
was
anything
new.

and so what
if 12 omitted verses of Mark
are up for debate?

ask the ancient Syriacs,
the Coptics,
Taitian,
Iraneus,
Justin Martyr
of the gospel’s weight.

snared
in the trappings
of our own sin,
it takes more faith
to deny
than be obedient
and dig in.

can we not allow these simple teachings to win?

“this is the message
you heard from the beginning:
we should love
one another.”
“above all, love each other deeply,
because
love
covers over
a multitude of sins.”

chew on those commands.
let them sink in.
stop thinking and listen.
“do everything in
love”
my friend.
